Sy Thomas is an American art director, background painter, and background artist with extensive experience in the animation industry. He was nominated for an Annie Award in 1997 for his work on the TV series "Timon & Pumbaa".
Education[]
Raised in Eagle Rock, California, Thomas realized his passion for art and drawing while studying business and economics in the American midwest. After graduating from Pasadena's Art Center College of Design in 1987, Thomas soon became an illustrator in Los Angeles for the entertainment industry. After Thomas and his wife had twins, he was allured to animation by the camaraderie associated with the industry. He was hired by Disney in 1994.
Career[]
Thomas is credited for being a background painter on Sofia the First, Fish Hooks, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Leroy & Stitch, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, Dave the Barbarian, Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Stitch! The Movie, and House of Mouse. He is credited as a background stylist for The Emperor's New School, Lloyd in Space, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Recess, Timon & Pumbaa, and the Mighty Ducks TV series. Additionally, Thomas is credited as an art director for Mickey's House of Villains and forty-eight episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse over the course of eight years (2006-2014).
